Description

Did the world almost avoid war at the Munich Conference? What was really accomplished and did that actually fuel Hitler's confidence to push the allies more and more? This activity will help your students explore these questions and more! Digital and Hard Copy Included!

This "Appeasement and the Munich Conference" Distance Learning Activity includes:

1) A rundown of what appeasement is and how it was used at the Munich Conference. Students will be asked to identify the reasons why Britain and France acted the way they did with regards to their negotiations with Adolf Hitler and Nazi Germany. Students will then be asked about the Nazi-Soviet Non-Aggression Pact. They will answer questions about the origins of the pact and why Hitler was inclined to sign it with someone who he didn't respect. Finally students will analyze political cartoons about appeasement in order to gain a better understanding of how appeasement worked and what it eventually led to.

This activity can be used in many different ways in the classroom. Students can work independently, in pairs or this activity can be used as a jigsaw in order to facilitate a class wide discussion about the topics discussed in the activity.
