Public Records

These records include various legal documents including property records, plats, marriages, foreclosures, commissioners court, public notice, assumed names, marks and brands. Meeting notes, also known as minutes, are also available along with agendas for public meetings. All of these specific items are available on the court’s public record website at https://cameron.tx.publicsearch.us/.

In addition, there are vital statistics available to order online. These are also known as vital records. The County Clerk’s involvement in the Vital Statistics Department mostly includes issuing marriage licenses, recording birth and death certificates, and issuing certified copies. However, for other areas pertaining to vital records, the clerk is supported by the Vital Statistics Unit (“VSU”) of the Texas Department of State Health Services in Austin.

Marriage, birth, and death certificates can all be ordered online for the following prices:

Open records requests can also be submitted for information that is not already available on the public record county portal at https://cameron.tx.publicsearch.us/. This can include things like court records, police reports, or other documents. Deeds are also common requests, which are used to transfer ownership of property. These, along with Abstracts of Judgment and Releases, Deeds of Trust, Oil & Gas Leases, Mechanic Liens, Releases of Liens, Affidavits, Power of Attorney, Hospital Liens, and Releases are filed in the Official Public Records as general documents.

Plain copies and certified copies of deeds can be obtained by using the Official Public Records Search and selecting “Property Records.” You can also obtain them by sending an email to officialpublicrecords@co.cameron.tx.us. To request a certified copy by mail, send the request to:

County Clerk’s Office
P.O. Box 2178
Brownsville, Texas 78522-2178.

The fee to get a copy of the deed is $1 per page, $5 per certification, and $5 per search.
To get access to more open records, there are several fees involved, which can be found on the County Clerk’s fee schedule. The easiest way to be routed to the right department for your request is to use the public information request form online at https://www.cameroncountytx.gov/public-request-form/.
